Heating & Cooling
Ø Check your air conditioner now and be sure it’s working properly. It’s a lot easier to get a technician to repair it now than when the temperature is in the nineties.
Ø If you cover your air conditioner’s condenser unit (the part that is outside the house) for the winter, take off the cover and clean the coils. Clear areas around the condenser unit so that it has full airflow and replace filters as needed.
Ø Have your chimney cleaned. Get rid of that winter build up of creosote now and you won’t have to rush to do it in the fall.
Ø Be sure working fireplaces have screens or other childproof barriers in place when not in use.
Ø Secure all gas fireplaces with a valve cover or key.
Ø Have your furnace cleaned. Heating techs are much more available now than in the fall.
Ø Don’t forget to dust the tops of those ceiling fans that have not been used recently.
Ø Take down the storm windows and get those screens repaired, cleaned and put up now.
Ø Be sure you have working shades on south facing windows. Closing them during the hot days of summer can really help keep your house cool. You may also want to think about installing solar film
Ø Check the caulking and weather stripping around windows and doors.
Ø Do any needed repairs on your lawn mower.
Ø Check your garden hose for leaks.
Ø Fill up the propane and clean up your gas grill.
Ø Clean out the garage. You’re likely to find a lot of stuff in there from the winter that you don’t need.
Ø Clean up and repair your lawn furniture.
Ø Plant your garden.
Get your chores done early so you can enjoy our wonderful Vermont summer.
